Message from the Founder
Thank you for visiting ICMT.
Japan did not enter my life suddenly. I grew up around shipping — my father worked in shipbroking, with links to the India–Japan trade of an earlier era — so ships, cargoes, documents and the trust between counterparties were part of the language of business around me from the start. Early in my own career, one of my first project-cargo undertakings was connected to Japan: the careful movement of dismantled industrial plant from Japanese ports to the Middle East. It left a lasting impression — the seriousness, preparation and precision that serious Japanese industrial and maritime work demands.
Over more than thirty years, my work took me through the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, Europe and the wider maritime markets. Each taught me something different. Japan, throughout, represented the qualities I most respect in business: discipline, reliability, precision, long-term trust and quiet execution. In time, it moved in my mind from being a market to being a place where I wanted to build.
ICMT is the Japan-rooted chapter of a longer maritime journey, connected to the Icon legacy and its established Icon Chartering shipbroking identity. It is a new company in Japan, and we are building it deliberately. Across international shipping I have seen what happens when businesses try to appear larger than they are — they overstate relationships and confuse ambition with execution, and the market eventually exposes it. I would rather build only what substance can support: a real base, proper records, relationships formed slowly, and a clear line between current activity, pipeline and prior experience.
Our work centres on areas where trust matters most — shipbroking, chartering advisory, project cargo, maritime technology and selected international business development — drawing on my own experience and that of our advisors and long-standing relationships. These are long-cycle businesses. They reward patience, documentation, credibility and care.
My commitment is to build ICMT in a way that honours Japanese business standards while bringing practical international reach to the table — a quiet, careful bridge between Japan and the markets where our experience and judgement can add value.
